CONTENUTO History of the first 60 editions of this important Polish meeting from 1954 to 2013. The meeting celebrate the name of one the greatest Polish athlete, 10,000 metres Olympic Champion in Los Angeles 1932, after a duel along 24 laps of the 25 with the Finnish Volmari Iso - Hollo, winner of the 3000 steeple chase race in the same Games and once again Olympic Champion in Berlin '36 and bronze medal on the 10,000 metres.  Kusociński - born in Warszawa in 1907 -  started competing in athletics in 1926 with the first races (800 metres), but he took up in 1928 joining the sport club "Sarmata" where his coach was the famous Estonian decathlete Aleksander Klumberg - Kolmpere, bronze medal in Paris '24 and world record holder in 1922, first official WR of the IAAF Era.

At the time of his Olympic success, "Kusy" (his nickname) was a gardener in a Warszawa park. After Los Angeles,  he won a silver medal in the 5000 metres in Torino 1934, during the first edition of the European Championships, the winner was the French Roger Rochard. Then, Kusociński decided to retire from athletics, but made a comeback in 1939 by winning the 10 000 m at the Polish National Championships. Following the German occupation of Poland in 1939, while employed as a waiter, he worked secretly for the anti-Nazi Resistance. Arrested by the Gestapo on 26 March 1940 he was imprisoned in and imprisoned in Mokotów prison , beaten and tortured. When the Gestapo understood that he would not reveal the names of his compatriots, he was executed on June 21, 1940 in Palmiry where the Nazi murdered the Polish and Jews victims. His tomb is the cemetery of the village.

ANNOTAZIONI On the front cover: a photo with four of the most Polish important athletes, from left, Zdzislaw Krzyzkowiak, Kaziemierz Zimmy, Tersa Cieply, Jerzy Chromik. On the back cover, other two great athletes: Irena Szewinska Kirszenstein and Ewa Klobukowska. The first participation of Italian athletes was in 1956 (9 - 10 June), 3rd edition of the meeting. They were Mario Paoletti (400), Gianfranco Baraldi (3000), Moreno Martini (400 H), Attilio Bravi (Long Jump), Giulio Chiesa (Pole Vault), Silvano Meconi (Shot Put), Pino Dordoni (20 km Race Walk).
